Volume 5 No. 3 | May 2025
It all started on a couch.During the pandemic, Attorney Neibra C. Williams would crash at former Judge Judith W. Hawkins’ home while in town for court. What began as casual late-night talks turned into something deeper.“On Friday nights,” Judith recalls, “as she sat on my loveseat and I dozed on the sofa, our conversations covered everything—nothing was off limits.”From those unfiltered exchanges came Friendly Discourse, a podcast grounded in scripture, personal growth, and spiritual reflection.“Friendly Discourse began before it had a name,” Judith says. “Its original purpose was to discuss themes for a women’s empowerment conference, but it quickly became a space for sharing wisdom and insights buried deep in my heart.”Now in its third season, Friendly Discourse blends candid dialogue with biblical insight. Despite their differences—age, background, even belief systems—Neibra and Judith share a rare connection that draws listeners in. Their connection, which originated around the legal profession, has blossomed and grown.“Neibra’s prodding, questions, and counterpoints force me to re-examine, confirm, modify, and share my conclusions, which must reflect Biblical principles,” Judith says. For Neibra, the podcast has become a personal ministry.“It will forever be just ‘chit-chatting’ with my best friend,” she says. “But preparing for each episode has forced me to study parts of the Bible I had never explored. I’ve grown tremendously in my walk with God.”This season, the focus is on self-esteem, viewed through the lives of the five women listed in Jesus’s genealogy: Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, and Mary. Their stories offer timeless truths in a world full of distorted messages.“Friendly Discourse allows me to connect with listeners who are searching for insight and understanding—they just need someone to point them toward a better way,” Judith says.
